About the Event
Join us from 5:30 pm on Friday the 6th of December for Tavistock’s famous annual Dickensian Evening. It is a wonderful opportunity to indulge in some late-night Christmas shopping in the town's lovely independent shops. Plus there will be a festive mix of stalls and entertainment throughout the town.
Tavistock’s Dickensian Evening is a magical late-night shopping event that transports you back in time as shop keepers embrace the spirit and dress up in traditional attire. The smell of chestnuts cooking on steam engines will waft through the streets bringing excitement to children and adults alike. Shops will be open late, and the town will come alive with entertainment on every corner. The streets are filled with crowds who come to enjoy the old-fashioned traditional Christmas experience.
For 2019, we are holding our first Lantern Parade which will kick the evening off from 5pm in a magical style. Participants are encouraged to join in at 5pm on either end of town. The processions will meet on Bedford Square for some community carol singing.
There will be stilt walkers, reindeer, choirs, bands, street entertainers all performing throughout town.
Festive Craft, Food & Drink and gift stalls can be found in Butcher’s Hall and around town.
For children there's an old-fashioned merry-go-round fairground ride and a traditional Punch & Judy show.
While you're in town, you can take in the festive scenes in St. Eustachius Church.
Get here early to avoid the rush – there is free parking in the centre of town from 4pm - or why not use the Park & Ride from Morrisons Car Park.
