About the Event
Tavistock Canal took 14 years to construct and was completed in 1817, providing a vital transport link from land-locked Tavistock, with its mineral riches, to the nearby ancient port at Morwellham, 5 miles away in the Tamar Valley. This flat walk guides you along the entire accessible route of the Canal, discovering the role of the canal in developing the prosperity of Tavistock in the 19th century and passing the birthplace of Sir Francis Drake. This walk will take about 3 hours and is approximately 5 miles long
For all walks suitable footwear and outer clothing should be worn. The cost is £5 per adult, payable at the Visitor Information Centre or online.
