"Why bother understanding the Indian Ocean?" A Talk by Peter Burkill

"My talk will be about the current research interests in the Indian Ocean. I started an international programme of research on the Indian Ocean some 7 years ago. You may think that the Indian Ocean is remote and therefore not of interest. In fact, it is warming extremely fast and the consequences for those living around the rim is very significant. 

These people form the fastest-growing population on Earth. They depend on the Asian Monsoon yet this is becoming more difficult to predict. My talk will cover what we currently know of the Indian Ocean and what we need to know in the very near future."
