'To Boldly Go’ is an exhibition telling the story of Tavistock’s 19th Century Emigrants, presented by Tavistock Heritage Trust.
Between the years 1815 & 1895 some 13 million people emigrated from England to different parts of the world for reasons of necessity or opportunity for a better life, many of these emigrants leaving Devon. This exhibition tells some of their stories.

Tavistock's Catholic Church opens its doors as part of Heritage Open Days. The church is a Grade II* Listed building, designed in the 1860s by the well known architect Henry Clutton. Clutton also designed the Chapel in Plymouth Road cemetery and a similar church at Woburn, the seat of the Dukes of Bedford

The Edge Players have taken the reports and added responses - although the letters are genuine the responses are interpretations of the events, giving the reaction of all those involved from local dignitaries to young chimney sweeps and street urchins.

From time immemorial burials in Britain have centred on the local churchyards. When, in the 1875, Dolvin Road Cemetery was closed, the Duke of Bedford provided space and buildings for burials in the Plymouth Road Cemetery which was opened for its first burial in March 1882.
