Beautiful Billboards: The Idea Behind The Shop Front Vinyls In Tavistock

Over the past couple of weeks, it has been great to see so many locals and visitors enjoying the town and supporting the local businesses after a few long, hard months. Along with some new businesses joining the bustling high street and beautiful planters along the pavements, Tavistock’s empty properties have had a makeover and the shopping streets have never looked better!

Organised by Tavistock BID and designed by Fatcalf, new Tavistock themed Vinyls now cover four empty business units throughout the town, highlighting Covid safety measures, interesting facts about the town and inspiring events, including beautiful art work created by talented artists from Tavistock College.

Fatcalf were delighted to win the tender for this campaign and were tasked with finding ways to communicate with visitors and local public as the Lockdown eased and the BID members opened their shop doors once again. The overall aim for the ‘Open For You’ campaign was to communicate the importance of staying safe whilst enjoying the unique shopping experience Tavistock has to offer.

They are here to highlight that a safe and sustainable re-opening is a collaborative process. We all need to “Be Safe”, by following guidelines, being kind and respectful to each other and help proprietors to maintain safe premises. What comes with being safe is the opportunity for visitors to “Escape” the Lockdown and “Explore” this beautiful town and it’s surroundings to its near fullest.

“Whilst we felt the sadness of seeing shop premises not being used, we realised that it was equally deflating for the town to have blank, dilapidating and distinctly ‘unloved’ shop windows in prominent areas. This seemed to give a unique opportunity for these windows to become welcoming, vibrant and informative billboards.” - Tim @ Fatcalf

With Fatcalf being at the heart of the design process, it was key that they created a concept that was bold and attractive as well as easy to read and understand, which was vital in giving both a facelift to the unused shops and to the town centre itself. Across all four billboards, each was designed with unique messages to create a balanced browsing experience whilst shoppers explored the streets of Tavistock. The overall message that is communicated clearly is that safety is at the forefront of everyones Tavistock adventures.

“I hope we can do more on this in coming months as we safely come out of Lockdown. It has been a productive process and also great to know that the campaign has originated and been completely executed within Tavistock, using local supplier Tavy Signs for the print and fitting of the vinyls.” - Tim @ Fatcalf

Local is a word that is at the heart of Tavistock. This campaign was a fantastic opportunity to get local businesses involved and work together to passionately help bring our high street back to life. With Tavistock being on the edge of Dartmoor, it was key to use this campaign to promote our friendly and welcoming town to visitors from all over. These vinyls have create a strong message to all visitors that the town is here to be explored and is a great place to shop for both essentials and luxuries from unique and independent businesses in a safe way.

Make sure to keep an eye out for these wonderful vinyls displayed across the town on your next trip to Tavistock and have a gander at the interesting information on ways to enjoy Tavistock in a safe and considerate way.

So, let’s ‘Be Safe’ whilst we ‘Escape’ to Tavistock and truly enjoy ‘Exploring’ the town once more!
